About Mafrash
One of Iranian’s decorative-use handicrafts is called “Mafrash”. It is a hand-woven carpet with a rectangular shape and a box-shaped door, which is used to transport quilts and mattresses or household items during nomadic migrations. Also, Mafrash is used as a means of storing sleeping accessories such as quilts, mattresses, blankets, etc in homes. Mafrash is usually woven in two pieces.
This beautiful hand-woven is woven with the technique of carpet weaving, Charkh weaving, Rend weaving and Kilim weaving and using colorful wool and acrylic fibers. Qashqaeis weave Mafrash according to their taste and interest, that’s why Mafrash patterns are often attractive and happy. The different sides of the Mafrash are connected to each other with natural leather and hand-stitched. There are leather straps on the upper surface of the Mafrash which are used to close and lock the Mafrash. Mafrashs are often heavy due to their texture and use of leather.
Today, Mafrashs are used in the decoration of homes. In this way, they fill the inside of them with blankets and quilts, and after tying the straps, they place it upside down in a corner of the hall and use it as a couch. It has such a nice view!
