About Rend Kilim
Rand weaving of Qashqai nomads
“Rend” is a type of very finely woven Kilim, which is also called “Soozani”. Its texture is similar to Verni and Shirkipich . This type of handwoven is woven only in Qashqai tribe areas. The motifs of this hand-woven type are the same motifs used in carpets and Kilims. Due to its difficulty and time-consuming nature, large carpets are usually not woven with these technic, and smaller handicrafts such as handbags, tablecloths, khorjin, Tirdan and sometimes Mafrash are woven in this way.
In terms of price and value, Rand Kilims are among the most exquisite hand-woven Qashqai carpets. The back and front of this type of Kilim are not similar to each other and knots can be seen on the back of the work. Merino wool is used instead of ordinary wool in their texture for softness and delicacy. The most famous motifs used in Rand rugs are: peacock, bush, daffodil… The weight of this type of handwoven is usually under one kilogram and it is a luxurious and ideal option for carrying as a passenger for souvenirs or gifts.
