About Woolen Kilim
Kilim is a tapestry rug handed down by nomads. The kilim, which has been handed down from mother to daughter since ancient times, is spelled with motifs of women’s cipher-like thoughts, prayers, and messages, So please enjoy the world of kilims woven from the fingers of nomadic peoples.
The most important element of Kilim is “Abrash”. Abrash is a word that expresses the texture created by the color shade and thickness of the thread. For example, even with the same red, subtle differences in color are created depending on the environment (climate and temperature) in which it is dyed. By using various red threads of different colors and weaving them in a tasteful way, comfortable color changes are created, giving depth to the kilim and increasing its value as a one-of-a-kind item. Abrash can also be seen in antique and old kilims. In the past, the weavers dyed only the minimum amount of yarn necessary for their nomadic life, so if they ran out of yarn during the weaving of the kilim, they would re-dye the yarn. However, when working in nature, even if the same material is used, the same color thread cannot be produced every time. The sense of the nomads, who rather enjoyed weaving the differences in color, became Abrash. Today, there are very few weavers who can express abrash with good taste. Even with the recent chemical dye kilim, the shades of color can be seen. Even if we want to express the original abrash that consumers want, weavers without sense and skill cannot do it, so we have to dye the yarn in advance and make it look like it.
