About Merino Kilims
Merino Kilims are made from a kind of high-quality wool called Merino. Merino is a type of natural fiber that is produced from sheep’s wool and is one of the most valuable and expensive yarns used in the carpet weaving industry. The wool of this type of sheep bred in Spain is short and its length is about 25 to 125 mm, its diameter is about 16 to 24 microns. The prominent features of this yarn are its strength, lightness and high elegance and its lack of sensitivity.
Kilims which produced from merino wool have high elegance and great value. Their weight is much lighter than Kilims woven with normal wool, and unlike them, they do not have a bristly surface. Due to the high elegance of these types of Kilims, they are usually used as tablecloths, wall coverings, sofa covers and other decorative purposes, and their use as floor coverings is not common.
